Behind the Scenes: About the Woodsmall Sisters

Posted by on Jul 29, 2014 in Blog | 0 comments

Two weeks ago at my author event, I was asked several questions about my series “The Diaries of the Woodsmall Sisters.” Incase more of you might be interested in hearing them, I decided to post some of them for you here!

Why did you decide to write a book set in the 1850s?

The reason behind both of those questions is because of the books that I have read in the past! I have read the entire Little House on the Prairie series, American Girl, and Love Comes Softly. I enjoy writing from that time period and that is why my first series is set in the 1850s. In general, I enjoy writing in any historical time period!

Are any of your characters based on someone you know?

Yes! Well, maybe not as an entire person, but certain personality traits definitely resemble people I know. Carolyn, in fact, is based off of me, while my younger sister is a mixture of Bethany and Laura. Carolyn’s parents and my parents are also similar in many aspects, as well as Carolyn’s relationship with her parents. Jesse is not entirely based off of anyone, but he was added because I always wanted an older brother growing up. Carolyn and her cousins are also really close and spend a lot of time together, just like my cousins and I do!

How long did it take you to write “Finding Faith”?

Since “Finding Faith” and the rest of the series was written when I was thirteen years old, I guess you could say that it took me four years to write and publish it! I actually don’t remember the exact amount of time it took me to write, but I’m guessing it took about a year to write and another year to edit it all.

What about you? Do you have any questions for me as an author? I’d love to hear them!
